Well Done!

As part of the Year 6 IT curriculum and in conjunction with the GoIt project (Tata IT Solutions) Year 6 have been designing and making Artificial Intelligence mobile phone apps.

Four of our amazing Year 6 children journeyed to The Co-op Head Office at Angel Square in Manchester, where they presented their AI product for solving a problem relating to climate change.  We were in competition with other Co-op primary schools across the Trust, and we came first!!!!

Their presentation was amazing, and they wowed the professional industry panel with their idea for an app which measured the carbon miles travelled by products to reach the shelves of shops.

We will now progress to the international GoIT finals, where we will again present our ideas, only this time up against schools from countries such as India, USA, Germany and many others.

We are very excited and proud of them to be representing our school on a global stage!!

Uniform Reminder

We have noticed there are more children coming to school in non-black trainers when it is not a PE day.  The Uniform Policy says all footwear should be entirely black - we prefer school shoes, but trainers are acceptable as long as they are entirely black with no coloured markings.

We would also like to remind parents that if headscarves and turbans are worn, they should be black or forest green to match the colour of the school jumper.

Children’s Mental Health Week

Next Friday is Pyjama Day for Children's Mental Health Week.  The children can come to school in their pyjamas, but we do ask that the children come to school in normal shoes.  We are asking for a small donation of £1 which will go towards Mind Charity.

Playground Gate in a morning

The gate is unlocked at 8.30 a.m. for the Nursery children.  All other children must stay with their parents until 8.40 a.m.  There have recently been a number of occasions where children have been left unattended.

Requests for leave in term time

Since Christmas, we have received a large number of requests from parents wanting to take their children out of school during term time.  This is totally unacceptable.  Children should be in school for the required 190 school days per academic year.  If you take your child out of school during term time, we will contact the Educational Social Work Service who will implement a fixed-term penalty.  This could result in each parent being fined £80 per child.  In some cases, the fine could be £2,500 per child per parent and the parents could also receive a criminal record.

Reading

Parents often ask for advice on how best to support their child, and we continue to say that the best way for a parent to help their child is to encourage them to read.  This can mean reading to them, listening to them read, reading together or asking them to tell you about the book that they are reading. In school, our highest achievers are almost always enthusiastic readers.

Warm Clothing

Please ensure that you send your child/children to school with coats, hats, scarves, gloves etc.  If your child comes to school in wellington boots please ensure they bring a change of shoes to school.  Please also make sure all items have your child’s name in them.
